Privacy Policy

Wee Hours Studio is a one-person site. I collect as little as I can, and only to make the site work.

What we collect

• Your email address, when you buy something, make an account or link an album card. It's how your music belongs to you, and how you log in.
• Account details you choose to add: a display name, a password (stored securely hashed, never in plain text), playlists, hearted tracks, stamps and settings.
• Purchases: what you got and when. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card details.
• Postcards: the track, design, your note and the "from" name you type, when it was opened, and the hour on your clock when you sent it (for a couple of time-of-day stamps). Your note stops showing once a private postcard fades.
• Mix tapes: the tracks, the title, the names and note you add, and, if a Fan Club member asks us to email it, the recipient's email address. We use that address only to send the mix tape (and a resend if you ask), never for anything else.
• Merch orders: your shipping address, which goes to our print partner so they can make and ship your order.
• Messages: what you send through the Contact page or a card's reset request (your name, email and message), kept so I can reply.
• Basic technical information, like your IP address, used briefly to prevent spam and abuse (for example, the daily postcard and sign-up limits), and play counts that help show what's popular.

Where it's kept

Everything is stored in the site's private database, on its own secure server. It isn't posted anywhere or listed for anyone to browse.

• Postcards and mix tapes can only be seen by someone who has their link, and each link contains a long random code that can't be guessed. Nobody can look through other people's postcards or notes.
• Your email address is never shown on the site, not even on your public profile.
• Only I (Sheila) can look things up behind the scenes, and only when it's needed: to help you with your account, or to deal with spam or abuse.

How we use it

• To deliver what you got and run your account
• To send transactional emails: purchase links, login links, receipts and mix tapes you asked us to send
• To show your public profile (display name, stamps and any playlist you choose to share). You can hide your stamps in your account settings.
• To keep the site safe from spam and misuse

The newsletter is separate: you only get it if you sign up for it, and you can unsubscribe from any issue.

What we don't do

We don't sell your data, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies. We don't share your information with anyone except the services that make the site run:

• Stripe, for payments and Fan Club subscriptions
• Our email provider, to send emails
• EmailOctopus, for the newsletter, if you sign up
• Our merch print partner, for merch orders
• Google reCAPTCHA, on some forms, to stop spam bots
• SoundCloud, which streams some tracks; when one plays from SoundCloud, SoundCloud's own privacy policy applies to that

Cookies and your device

We use a cookie to keep you logged in, and one to remember this browser (so, for example, opening your own postcard doesn't count as your friend opening it, and a device that has opened your music doesn't have to confirm your email again). Your cart, your player's queue and a few display choices are saved in your own browser, not on our server.

Children

Kids are welcome to listen to the music here, including tracks made for them. Listening doesn't need an account or any personal information.

Accounts, and saving music to an email, are for people 13 and older. Before either, we ask one question, the year you were born, only to check age. We don't keep the year. If someone under 13 answers, nothing is saved, and we suggest asking a parent or guardian to use their own email instead.

If you're a parent and think your child under 13 gave us their information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your choices

You can change your display name and settings any time in your account. To have your account and information deleted, send a message on the Contact page and we'll take care of it. (Records of past purchases may be kept as required for tax and accounting.)
